Sunday morning in winter
Sunday morning in January 2011 | What do you do at 7:00 am in the morning on a Sunday when there is no chance that your daughter will go back to sleep and you are still too sleepy to engage in playing with Elmo his cousins? Choice is the solution! That coffee shop that is 15 minutes away on foot, opens early in the morning and has great coffee. It almost seems to become a habit for us and Paula to visit choice at least once every winter weekend shortly after sunrise. It is bloody cold outside, so cold that parked cars seem to suffer and people working inside shops are wearing hats. Paula seems to be comfortable and warm in her new snowsuit that mummy got her. And she enters choice enthusiastically – time for a croissant.
Inside the typical “choice in the morning” scenerie. Alpha Blondy playing, a couple of hung-over students sipping coffee and reading the papers (why would they get up so early?) and a couple of dog owners trying to warm their hands with coffee cups after having spent some time outside in the cold collecting their dog’s morning toilet in little plastic bags.
And us. Paula is peacefully chewing on her piece of croissant, distributing another piece over the floor in the immediate vicinity of her chair, and together we are examining photos in the New York Times. Soon Isabel and Paula’s little not yet born sister will wake up, and we’ll go home for a second breakfast. I really like these Sunday mornings in Fort Green.
