Patterns in the Sand

The flight from Khartoum via Nyala and El Geneina to El Fasher took us almost as long as a transatlantic flight: ample time to admire the impressive desert landscape below us, and to let thoughts drift away. Dry river beds, lonesome plots with ring fences, irrigation channels and mountain ranges create intriguing and at times bizarre patterns in the sand.
