Among Nubian Kings

Karima is approximately 450 km away from Khartoum to the North. It’s a straight drive on good roads, mostly through desert.

The Nubian Guesthouse set up by an Italian Tourism company offers unexpectedly nice and stylish accommodation and good food.

Karima was apparently the center of the Nubian Kingdom, and the sights are absolutely amazing.

There are some attempts to regulate the few visitors that come out here, but we are mostly alone with a guide that leads us through the pyramids, temples and tombs.

It is difficult to imagine that what must have been a massive settlement is indeed 3,600 years old.

There are lots of broken clay bowls lying around and the guide seems to imply that these were used during ceremonies in the temples.

While Paula and Lucia pick them up and start playing, I wonder whether it could indeed be the case. That these clay pot shells are also dating back to the times of the Nubian kings and priests.
